Tomorrow is the 46th anniversary of the founding of the Society. It is also begins my year of trying a medieval recipe a week (more or less). I have decided to start slow and make Appelmoise from A Proper New Booke of Cookery.
I am participating in multiple Depth Challenges for the A&S 50 Challenge. One of the challenges was to attempted 50 medieval recipes. I have a decided on a method that will force my hand (a la “Julie & Julia”), starting after the SCA New Year I will prepare a medieval recipe every week. The plan is to have that recipe for Sunday dinner, which will thrill the children. I know there will be a couple weeks where it will not happen. If I am away for the whole weekend, it isn’t happening. I am not going to put pressure on myself to do 50 recipes in a year, because I have 4 more years to complete the challenge; however, this will get me pushed toward productivity. It will also give me wide field to pick from for next years A&S cookery entry.
I am well pleased.
